Image and frame sizes #

Any size is allowed as long as:

  • its area is within the limit for what you are making (1 megapixel = 1024 × 1024 pixels):
    • standalone images in the image library: 0.3 to 4 megapixels; their edits run at up to 2 megapixels,
    • sequence frames and video: 0.3 to 1 megapixels,
  • both sides are multiples of 32 pixels,
  • its aspect ratio is between 9:21 (tall) and 21:9 (wide).

You never have to compute this. Ask for an aspect ratio and a resolution, or for exact pixels, and the request is snapped to the nearest valid size. The result always reports the exact pixels used.

How to ask MCP parameters REST fields
Shape and resolution aspect_ratio, megapixels aspect, megapixels
Exact pixels width, height width, height
Same shape as the sequence, other resolution megapixels alone megapixels alone
Nothing standalone image: 1:1 at 1 megapixel; in a sequence: its frame size, or 16:9 at 0.5 megapixels if it has none same

aspect_ratio accepts any W:H with whole numbers up to 99 inside the allowed range, not only the ones listed here.

Choosing a resolution #

  • Draft (0.5 MP) for exploring ideas and compositions: about twice as fast as 1 MP and the cheapest size (1 credit).
  • Standard (1 MP) is the default for standalone images.
  • High (2 MP) and Max (4 MP) for final standalone images, prints and wallpapers. They take longer and cost more (3 and 7 credits; images are priced by render time). An edit of an image larger than 2 MP is made at 2 MP with the same shape.
  • For video, 0.5 MP is the best value: it is the largest size at the base video price. Up to 1 MP is possible; video above 0.5 MP costs proportionally more, and above 0.6 MP clips are limited to 6.67 seconds.

The frame size of a sequence #

The selected start frame sets the frame size of its sequence. End frames and takes are always produced at exactly that size. Selecting a start frame of another size re-sizes the sequence (until its first step is accepted) and deselects takes made at the old size.

Uploaded images keep their own shape: they are scaled to fit the limits (4 MP in the image library, 1 MP as a start frame) and trimmed to the 32-pixel grid, never cropped to a preset. Animating a library image copies it into a new sequence scaled to at most 1 MP. References are stored at up to 0.5 megapixels.

Video length #

Shortest clip 3.33 s
Longest clip 10 s (up to 0.6 MP), 6.67 s (above 0.6 MP)
Default 4.33 s
Step one third of a second
Frame rate 24 fps, or 48 fps with smoothing (on by default, free)
Sound generated with the picture, on by default
Container MP4 (H.264 video, AAC audio)

MCP tools take duration_seconds and snap it to the nearest third of a second.

The REST API counts length in frames, where one frame is 1/18 of a second: 60 to 180 in steps of 6 (default 78; at most 120 above 0.6 MP). frames / 18 is the length in seconds, whatever frame rate the file is delivered at.

Longer films are built from several clips: each accepted step adds its clip, and the export joins them. There is no limit on the number of steps.

What to pick for common targets #

Target Aspect Notes
Widescreen video, presentations 16:9 960×544 at standard resolution
Phone video, stories, shorts 9:16 compose for the centre; interface overlays cover the top and bottom
Feed posts 1:1 or 4:5
Cinematic look 21:9 wide framing suits landscapes and slow camera moves
Print and posters 2:3 or 3:4 use maximum resolution
Product and catalogue 1:1 or 5:4
Banners and headers 2:1 or 21:9 leave empty space where text will be overlaid
